Project Description

Running around Peninsular Malaysia has been attempted only once before in Malaysian running history. In 2002, 65 years old Nasir Abas ran 1,754km in 30days, running an average of 58.47km/day.

In June 2016, 5 ultrarunners including Ng Seow Kong, Allan Lee and Lee Chun How, ran 880km from Padang Besar at the northern border of Malaysia and Thailand, to Johor Bahru Custom Building, which is at the southern border with Singapore. This Trans Peninsula run took 14 days, averaging at 62.5km/day.

In 2017, together with the other 8 runners, these 3 runners Ng Seow Kong, Allan Lee and Lee Chun How, ran across Peninsular Malaysia in an organized event called Coast to Coast 444km in a single stage multi day format under 120 hours.

Ng Seow Kong and Allan Lee are the organizers and participants of both the 2016 Trans Peninsula and 2017 Coast to Coast. The next logical challenge is certainly running around the whole of Peninsular Malaysia.

They, together with Chun How, formed the Organizing Committee in the middle of 2020, and successfully invited 8 more runners to join them in this challenge. It is a challenge indeed, as the run this time is over a distance of 2,234km in 31 days (72.2 km/days). 480km longer than the previous record of 1,754km in 30 days. This will be a Malaysia Book of Record attempt.

Below shows the many states and sights that the running route will pass through.

Objectives of the Run

I. To Set a new Malaysia record of completing the Run within a month of 31 days

  • Current record; 1754km in 30days (2002) by Nasir Abas, 65
  • With the witness of MBR, the profile of the run will be heightened to the benefit of Sponsor

II. To complete the Peninsular Malaysia Running Trilogy

1) Trans Peninsular Malaysia 880KM 2016

  • Charity fund raising event (Solo Multi-stage)
  • Padang Besar to Johor Bharu in 14-days

2) Coast 2 Coast 444KM 2017

  • Single stage race format - 120 hours cut-off time
  • Lumut to Kuala Terengganu via Cameron Highland, Gua Musang & Lake Kenyir

III. Fund raising for Orang Asli in Malaysia (JAKOA - Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli)

IV. Promote domestic tourism by highlighting tourist attractions that we will run through along the way

V. Inspire people around the Peninsular Malaysia to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle

  • By inviting runners from different states all over Malaysia to join Tour of Peninsula 2021 (ToP21) Ultra Series (6 sub-events in total)
  • Increase exposure of ToP21 at key locations around Peninsular Malaysia
  • Involve the running community around the Peninsula
  • Increase awareness and fund-raising effort of the events cause to support the Orang Asli community

Run Operation

I. Every day, the runners will typically start running at 6:00am.

  • Maintaining at 6km/h, we expect the runners to reach the destination for each day at around 6pm.
  • The run duration is at around 12 hours per day.
  • In the case of some runners who are running at faster or slower speed, they may choose to start earlier or later than 6:00am.

II. Each runner will be supported by his/her own crew at his/her own costs.

  • The support crew will provide food and beverages (including lunch) for the runners, change of clothes, shoes, rest & naps, and navigational help for the runner if it's required.

III. The Race Organization will have 3 Event Administration Executives to be in charge of;

  • The accommodation arrangement for the runners and their support crews, breakfast and dinners for everyone, and transportation of any excess luggage that the support cars cannot carry.

IV. There will be a team of medical crew which will support the event throughout the whole duration of the event.

V. There will be official video and photographic crew following the runners throughout the whole duration of the run.
